E-volunteering www.dobrovolnictvo.sk is a service and informational portal dedicated to voluntary organisations, volunteers, the public and the business sector, which is administrated and co-ordinated by our organisation C.A.R.D.O. On the site one can find information on current volunteering offers from the whole country of Slovakia, which are submitted by organisations that look for volunteers. The organisations are registered on the portal where they create a profile with the field(s) they work in, the city, contact person for volunteers, web page address and phone number. Volunteers, who are interested in helping can register, too. They define a field, in which they want volunteer, the city and frequency. The offers from organisations and requests from volunteers are matched together. In the same way it is possible to register requests or offers from companies and cities/villages. Volunteers are regularly involved in the work of the organisation over the internet.

Who are the e-volunteers?

There aren’t any exact statistics on e-volunteers, only key areas – it’s mostly social areas, administration and websites. The co-operation was started by putting the announcement on our website and in our newsletter; in addition, approximately 900 subscribers have shown interest as a result of promoting the organisation at various meetings and conferences.

Whom do they address the project to? Who is the recipient?

With our project we want to reach the general public, companies, schools, organisations, unemployed people, public administration in Slovakia and abroad. Our organisation is a member of CEV (Centrum Europeen du Volontariat), the network of 40 national, regional and local volunteer centres and voluntary organisations promoting the volunteering in Europe. This co-operation influences EU departments towards a policy regarding acceptance and valuing volunteering in the EU. CEV serves as a platform where various voluntary organisations can motivate each other, share experience and information and complement each other on the valuable work they do in their home countries and on a European scale.

How do they verify the e-volunteers’ competences before they start the co-operation with them?

The e-volunteers communicate only by e-mail – the co-ordinator of volunteers gets all required information by e-mail.

How do they ensure the safety and the quality of the e-volunteers’ work?

The co-ordinator has certified training and thanks to his acquired skills he can effectively maintain volunteers’ safety and quality of work. Our organisation is accredited.
